This week I will be going cross country to attend some high profile meetings. The topic will be based off leveraging social media as a business tool today. I am excited about the city I will be visiting as this will be my first time there. I bet you are wondering which city I am talking about. It is the one and only New York.

So here are some of the things that will be on the agenda for my trip. First, I will catch a Broadway show, not sure which one though. Then the next day is free so I was thinking about taking a double decker bus tour through the city. I want a quick way to see all the sights and I heard that site has a lot of good information on what to see.
I will be staying at some a decent hotel near the Times Square. I hope I don’t come off to much like a tourist, I just enjoy getting out and seeing the sights whenever I have an opportunity, rather than just sit inside a hotel room.
Most of this week has been dedicated to endless business meetings with potential clients. Although very productive, they become incredibly draining. One of my old friends from college, who writes for several blogs while experience tremendous success during the process, let me drive his brand new Nissan GTR. If you aren’t already familiar with what the Nissan GTR is check out this website. The GTR is incredibly fast and really expensive. Since its release in the U.S. market about 4 years ago, it has become somewhat of an iconic symbol of prestige and pure muscle. The feeling of being behind the wheel of this racer was completely addicting and euphoric. All the stress that has built up over the past few months melted away……I’m gonna have to do this again….soon.
Sometimes technology and people don’t mix. I have been having so much trouble trying to get my computer to work correctly the past few days. There must be something wrong with the operating system. When I turn it on, it takes forever to boot up. I am just crossing my fingers and hoping that there isn’t something more serious like a corrupt drive. Computers aren’t as user friendly as they used to be. When operating in DOS I could easily go in and make changes real time, but now with most of the COTS software like Windows, fixing it becomes a real bear. With days like today, I really feel like planning a weekend getaway. Okay enough complaining, back to trying to get this thing to work!
Life via a fax machine sounds really unrealistic. But when you have to work everyday on the same projects for your business, the fax machine becomes an invaluable tool. When I first started my business the idea of using a telephonic medium to transmit pages across the country or around the world seemed baffling. As I starting using this product, I became more used to the idea and the applications would eventually lead to more complex technology.
While yes it is true that I do wander away from the fax machine these days to more sophisticated technology such as the scanner and email to send documents and reports, it still does play a particular part of my business life. One of the benefits of using a fax machine is the receipt that it has gone through and that it was not likely lost in space somewhere after pressing send.
Life in the business world has become more complex for me these last few years, as I have acquired more responsibility and now have more duties to attend to. If someone would have asked me if I could see myself doing this now, I probably would have laughed and never believed it possible. But work is important. There are valuable lessons to learn when interacting with others in that type of setting.
Business and work also help us go and live the life that we want…to a point. It helps fund our dreams and hobbies that wouldn’t be possible any other way.
